Chrysanthemum White Rust
It is very important that you quarantine any new Chrysanthemums you bring into your garden/farm because of the high risk of white rust spores prevalent in Australia. We only use organic methods on our farm - water baths for more mature advanced cuttings and plants (64d for 5mins), or an organic fungicide spray for just-rooted cuttings (as they are too delicate for the water bath when that young - trust me, I have tried!). Both of these methods will kill any rust spores that may have come in on your new plants, but you must always monitor your plants as rust spores can literally blow in on the wind. Always remove (and bin/burn) all leaves that show any sign of white rust and treat again in the most practical way possible. Ensuring good airflow amongst your plants is one of the most effective preventative measure you can take - if you are not lifting your plants and replanting new cuttings each year, definitely plant at least 60cm apart. Most importantly only buy from reputable suppliers who acknowledge and recommend prevention/treatment of white rust, as it can damage Chrysanthemum crops VERY quickly and needs to be taken seriously when growing Chrysanthemums.
